Some of you may be wondering who Roberta is. Roberta was an absolutely amazing woman. Roberta was Bret’s (my bf) mommy, and a self taught, outstanding cook. She was a stay-at-home mom, whose whole life was her family (raised 3 great kids), who was known by everyone as a kind, loving woman. She would chat with everyone she crossed paths with, loved doing crafts, and always said, “it’s all about the plating” when it came to food.
Last year, around this time of year, she lost her battle with breast cancer, and I thought that sharing her wonderful recipes with the world would be my way of remembering and commemorating the woman she was, and the talent she had in the kitchen. The first one I am sharing with you is her Chinese Steak Recipe. My boyfriend made this for me the first time a few years ago, and I fell in love with it immediately. I hope you’ll enjoy it just the same.
Chinese Steak Recipe
2 T Brown Sugar
2 T Soy sauce
2 T Oil
2 tsp. Sesame Seeds
2 Cloves Garlic, minced
2 Scallions, chopped
1 lb. Loin Beef, thinly sliced
1 Green Pepper, sliced
1 Red Pepper, sliced
1. Combine brown sugar, soy sauce, oil, sesame seeds, garlic, scallions, and beef. Marinate for at least an hour, or overnight.
2. Saute meat and peppers separately.
3. Combine meat and peppers, and serve over rice.
I have made this recipe plenty of times (it’s quick and easy), and the sauce is delicious, with the perfect amount of sweetness. I have added a variety of different vegetables to this recipe, and have really enjoyed it with onions and mushrooms as well.
I hope you enjoy the first of Roberta’s Recipes. I look forward to sharing more of her delicious recipes with you in the future.
