Everyone showers. Whether it is to wake up in the morning, relax in the evening, or just to keep away the flies, it is something that everyone must do. Since it is a guarantee that you’ll be spending that 15 minutes in the shower multiple times a week, you might as well make it as enjoyable as possible. With some small tweaks, it’s easy to make your boring shower into a luxurious experience.
First things first, you need to gather the essentials.
Obviously the main purpose of taking a shower is to get clean, so your essentials are shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Buying great brands is an easy way to switch up your routine, and make the basics feel like a treat. My favorite shampoo and conditioner to use is by Pura d’or. Pura d’or is an animal cruelty free, organic line, that is made with 99% vegetable base ingredients, and free of parabens, gluten, artificial fragrances, artificial colors, and harsh preservatives. Their products use Moroccan Argan Oil, which is known for a variety of fabulous benefits. The Pura d’or shampoo naturally adds body, increases volume, and thickens hair. It lathers easily, and has a nice clean smell. It does a great job of cleansing my hair, and adding volume to my limp, heavy hair. The Pura d’or conditioner is truly wonderful. It smells out of this world (lavender vanilla), and enhances shine, manageability, and control. It is very nourishing to my hair that tends to get split ends. Definitely a treat in hair care form.
As for soap, I use Dove or Tom’s of Maine soap, which are both popular and excellent for all skin types, but when I want to switch it up, I completely recommend Dr. Bonner Castile Peppermint Soap. This soap is amazing in that it works phenomenally as a soap, cleaning, moisturizing, and smelling delicious, as well as has a huge variety of other uses.
Next, all the things that aren’t necessities, but should be.
Use a Natural Facial Cleanser Sponge – I absolutely love using my Japanese Konjac Sponge, which is infused with activated Bamboo Charcoal. This natural, 100% biodegradable sponge, that uses no fragrances, preservatives, or chemicals, is like nothing I have ever used before. It is hard when it is dry, but when you put water on it, it becomes squeezable, and absorbent. The Bamboo Charcoal absorbs oil, removes dirt and blackheads, and reduces sebum. To use it, I just wet it, add some soap, and move it in a circular motion on my face and neck. It is very gentle, and easy on my skin. It lathers nicely, and does a fantastic job of thoroughly cleansing my skin. I couldn’t ask for more in a facial sponge!
Use Filtered Water – A filtered shower head filters out 99% of the chlorine and other chemicals in your tap water, and only costs slightly more than a regular shower head.
Add Music – Music can set your mood, so listening to music in the shower only makes sense. If you’re starting the day, you can listen to upbeat music, or if you are trying to de-stress, you can listen to calming music. All you need to listen to music in the shower is a waterproof, bluetooth speaker. My favorite is the Tekubox Waterproof Shower Speaker. It is super easy to use, compatible with pretty much any device that has bluetooth, and most importantly, it has incredible sound. It is crisp, clear, has bass, and really sounds great while you’re in the shower. I couldn’t be happier with mine!
Light Candles – If you had a long day, turn on the warm water (not hot – hot water dries out your skin, and breaks your hair), and light some candles. It is sure to relax you in no time.
Bring in Eucalyptus – When eucalyptus is in heat and humidity, it releases essential oils that reduce stress and congestion. Enough said!
Exfolimate (AKA Exfoliate) your Body and Face the right way – In order to have beautiful skin, you have to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation gets rid of the dead skin, leaving your skin feeling marvelously supple. I exfoliate using Exfolimate. It’s this cool little tool that is simple to use, and it leaves my skin feeling nice and soft. Check out my How To video below to see just how easy it is to use.
Moisturizing, After-Shower Lotion/Oil, and Vitamin C Serum – I personally use Argan Oil (from Skinology) as my after shower moisturizer. Argan Oil is a precious, rare oil that can be used from head to toe. It assists in the regeneration and nourishment of damaged skin and hair, strengthens nails and cuticles, and can help heal scars. This is the perfect time to use it because after you shower, your pores are open, and your skin absorbs the argan oil, which locks in the hydration and moisturizer. I lather it on everywhere, especially on my drier skin areas, and it leaves my skin feeling absolutely delightful! As for my face, I love using the luxurious 24K Vitamin C Serum by Xanadu. Just looking at it with its flecks of 24K gold floating in it, you can’t help but feel fancy. The Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin and fight wrinkles. The Vitamin E moisturizes, while the Rose extract soothes the skin, and gives it its delightful scent. I love the way that this serum makes my skin feel and look, so this is one thing I never skip whenever I take a shower!
Wrap Up in a Robe – I don’t know what feels more luxurious than wrapping up in an uber soft, microfiber, fleece robe. It is just so warm and comforting.
When you spend a bunch of time in the shower each week, just switching up one or two of these things will make for a better start or end to your day!
Do you do anything to make your shower feel more luxurious?
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally, and believe will be good for my readers.
